    "What Came Before"

    Birmingham, Alabama

    Irene Latham currently serves as first vice president of Alabama Writers' Conclave, poetry editor of Birmingham Arts Journal, and was ASPS 2006 Poet of the Year. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals and anthologies, including "Whatever Remembers Us: an Anthology of Alabama Poetry" (2007, Negative Capability Press) and "Poems from the Big Table" (2007, Churn Dash Press). She coordinates many community events, including the annual My Favorite Poem event at the Alabama School of Fine Arts. She also works with artist Liz Reed on a traveling art exhibition called "Which Came First, Poetry or Paint?". When she is not writing poetry, Irene writes fiction. Her first novel "The Witches of Gee's Bend" will be released by Putnam in 2010. She lives in Birmingham, Alabama, with her husband Paul and their three sons. - www.irenelatham.com -
